California’s Department of General Services website is about to get a facelift.

The agency that is responsible for most state procurements is entering a contract with SymSoft to modernize the system.

“If any organization wants to be relevant in this digital world, they have to make sure that their website is publishing content in a timely and effective manner," SymSoft’s CEO, Savita Farooqui, said. "As well as, people are expecting Amazon-like experiences. DGS works with so many stakeholders … that finding relevant content for them is important.”

The timeline for the modernization effort is 12 to 18 months, with 10 to 12 team members working on the project, Farooqui said.

“California being the fifth-largest economy in the world, DGS should have a really fabulous website," said Matt Murphy, managing director of SymSoft. "It will be designed to be best-in-class, a government website that meets the needs of stakeholders, including people with disabilities.”

The department will be kicking off the project in the next few weeks, according to DGS’s Monica Hassan, deputy director of public affairs.

Symsoft’s part of the project will include:

-- A site redesign based on user experience

 -- Implementation of the CMS

-- Change management of the business processes and onboarding

-- Ensuring ADA Section 508 Compliance

 -- Responsiveness across all devices
