The California Department of Motor Vehicles’ Information Systems Division (ISD) is seeking a deputy project director (IT manager II) to take full responsibility for the strategic coordination of the DMV Technology Modernization Project.

The deputy director will be a member of the ISD senior leadership team and have “full management responsibility for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and managing all activities associated with the Modernization Section,” the job posting states.

In addition, the deputy director “directly supervises highly specialized consultants including technical architecture consultants and technical support consultants,” says the duty statement for the position. “The ITM II also manages and oversees the activities performed by vendor information technology professional staff, which includes their managers, senior architects, senior and staff level developers and analysts as well as testers and other technical support professionals.”

Responsibilities of the position include, among others:

  • Oversee and manage scope, resources and schedules for all aspects related to enterprise technology modernization.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate project activities with internal/external stakeholders, oversight agencies and vendor teams.
  • Provide expert knowledge assistance in implementation services evaluation and selection, and manage contract negotiations with software, hardware and service vendors.
  • Oversee project budget and develop appropriate fiscal controls.
  • Review and evaluate project plans.
  • Monitor project progress and determine appropriate actions to ensure delivery of new software releases and other deliverables on schedule.
  • Oversee approval of project plans and review of suggested scope changes related to enterprise systems.
The position has a monthly salary range of $9,725 to $11,821, and the application deadline is Feb. 3.
