Firm Closing Only California Office, But Staff Will Remain

A recently formed business that was created from the merger of three gov tech companies has announced that it's closing its only California office in March — but it's expecting that most of its employees in the state will remain and work remotely.

CentralSquare, a recently formed business created from the merger of three gov tech companies, has announced that it’s closing its only California office in March — though it will maintain a presence in the state.

CentralSquare was formed when TriTech, Superion and Aptean merged together in July. The company offers a wide range of software and services for the public sector, including public safety, health-care and administrative products. Aptean's public-sector customers included numerous California state agencies — Caltrans and the departments of Justice; Food and Agriculture; Industrial Relations; Social Services; and Public Health. Aptean was also a vendor to numerous California county and city governments. (A CentralSquare blog post, written by a deputy chief of the Ventura County Fire Department, details how the company's products were used in fighting last year's devastating Thomas fire.)

The San Diego office, which served as TriTech Software’s “corporate home” before the merger, was the working base of 144 employees upon the closure announcement. A CentralSquare representative said the majority of those employees have been offered spots in other offices or the ability to work remotely.

The representative expects at least 80 of those people to work remotely from California.

The purpose of the closure, according to the source, was to consolidate CentralSquare’s development and support teams into other offices “in order to boost development, productivity … and innovation.”

Those development and support teams are in North Carolina, Florida and Canada.
