FirstNet Debuts New Orion Voice App for First Responders

San Francisco-based Orion Labs' new mobile app for first responders is available to FirstNet members.

First responders whose agencies have joined the nationwide FirstNet platform now have another tool at their disposal, with the arrival of a new mobile application.

Push to Talk iOS 5.2.8, from San Francisco-based Orion Labs, is now FirstNet certified to the platform’s standards and included in the nationwide first responder network’s app catalog, the company said Wednesday. The availability pairs Orion’s app, designed to meet demanding public-sector needs under challenging conditions, with FirstNet’s Band Class 14 capabilities, which utilize a radio spectrum set aside for public safety.

Orion CEO Jesse Robbins said the company “hopes to be one part” of public safety’s work to save lives and protect residents. Bob Sloan, chief operating officer for FirstNet at AT&T, emphasized the importance of offering options to first responders.

“As a FirstNet-certified application, public safety can be confident that Orion Labs’ push-to-talk app is a trusted solution that meets FirstNet requirements for relevancy, security, data privacy, mobility, resiliency, and scalability,” Sloan said.
