Gov. Gavin Newsom’s emergency office made 33 purchases of IT goods in August — just more than one per day — and spent a little over $1.3 million in just its top five most expensive purchases.
Here’s more information on what the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) — which safeguards residents against everything from natural disasters to homeland security threats and cyberattacks — spent, with rounding:
• $775,000 with Motorola Solutions Inc. for Motorola Training Services during the 2020-2021 Fiscal Year, which began July 1. The state’s contract, however, runs for more than two years, from Aug. 25 through June 30, 2023.
• $250,000 with Insight Public Sector Inc. for “Enrollment ID: 70575174 Azure.” This suggests, of course, a purchase of Microsoft Azure — which offers an intrusion detection system, although this would likely have been reflected as “IDS.” CalOES’ contract began Aug. 4 and doesn’t have an end date — but instead indicates a commitment not to exceed $250,000 through July 31.
• $201,000 with Natix Inc. for “VC-SRM2-25EPSSS-F” in a contract beginning Aug. 12 and of indeterminate length. The company is a supplier on the California Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) and this may be a purchase of software reporting, per its list of CMAS contracts offered.
• $50,000 with ESI Acquisition Inc. (a subsidiary of Juvare) for “102-P-DR-1 perpetual – disaster recovery maintenance.” This contract appears to have started Aug. 5; however, this spend may cover FY 2020-21.
• $31,000 with Taborda Solutions Inc. for “CSI #14576425 service #2801765 Oracle Developer Suite – Named User Plus Perpetual.” This contract started Aug. 20 and its end date is not specified.
