One of California’s top emergency entities spent millions on IT goods and services last month — much of it related to 911 services.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) made only one purchase of IT services in February. It spent exactly $8 million on a three-year contract with CyraCom International, for “FY 21/22 911 Translation Services.” This likely represents the renewal of a partnership with CyraCom on OES’ 911 emergency telephone system; a similar three-year pact not to exceed $5 million expired Jan. 31. The new contract runs from Feb. 1-Jan. 31, 2025.

Cal OES made 26 purchases of IT goods last month. Its five most expensive buys cost exactly $404,342.16. Here, with rounding, is what that money paid for, based on data in the State Contract and Procurement Registration System:

  • $156,000 to Natix for subscriptions to VMware’s Workspace ONE Advanced edition. Cal OES made the purchase Feb. 4.
  • $96,000 to HF Tech Services, for ServiceNow’s IntegrationHub, which enables execution of third-party APIs during an event. Cal OES made the purchase Feb. 12.
  • $60,000 to Allied Network Solutions for corporate management and IT consulting. Cal OES made the purchase Feb. 28.
  • $52,000 to Ultrex Business Products for Konica Minolta digital printers. Cal OES made the purchase Feb. 4.
  • $39,000 to Authentic8 for Silo for Research, its platform that enables secure, anonymized research. Cal OES made the purchase Feb. 11.
