Here Are Tech Agency’s Top 5 Buys of IT Goods Last Month

The California Department of Technology’s most expensive purchases of IT goods in January included a hardware and services purchase that is similar to one made a year ago.

The California Department of Technology made more than 30 purchases of IT goods during January  and spent nearly $13 million on its five most expensive buys.

CDT made 33 purchases of IT goods in the year’s first month; its five most expensive purchases cost $12,559,033. More than half had New Year’s Day start dates; the others came mid-month. Here, with rounding, is what the department spent:

  • $6.9 million with IBM for “Hardware and Services – Gold Camp,” likely a reference to CDT’s Rancho Cordova data center. The two-year contract began Jan. 1 and ends Dec. 31, 2023. Here’s a similar purchase made in early 2020.
  • $3.6 million with Allied Network Solutions Inc. for “MNF – DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition Processor Value Unit,” probably a reference to multi-network firewall and the IBM Db2 database. The one-year contract began Jan. 1 and ends Dec. 31.
  • $1.5 million with Insight Public Sector Inc. for “EntMobandSecE5from SAGCC ShrdSvr ALNG SubsVL MVL PerUsr,” potentially a reference to Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security, as well as Software AG’s Command Central tool; and, likely, “per user” licensing. The two-year contract runs Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2023.
  • $301,000 with Dynamic Systems Inc. for “hardware QFX5120-48T-AFO,” likely a reference to the Juniper QFX5120 Switch routing and switching platform. The one-year pact runs Jan. 14 - Jan. 13, 2022.
  • $238,968, also with Dynamic Systems, for hardware, a one-year contract from Jan. 15 - Jan. 14, 2022.
