Here Are the Parks Department’s Top 5 IT Goods Purchases Through June

Several of the California Department of Parks and Recreation’s purchases of IT goods during the year’s first half were with familiar IT companies; in fact, the two largest such purchases were with the same vendor.

The state department charged with preserving California’s biological diversity and natural and cultural resources spent millions on IT goods during the year’s first six months, with purchases of devices, software and support.

From Jan. 1 to June 30, the California Department of Parks and Recreation (CDPR) made nearly 200 purchases of IT goods, with the costliest topping six figures. During that period, CDPR made 189 IT goods purchases and spent $5,421,431 on its five most expensive buys. Here, with rounding, is what that money paid for, based on data in the State Contracting and Procurement Registration System:

  • $1.6 million with Motorola Solutions Inc. for “S0856109 NORCOM Equipment,” potentially a reference to the purchase of radio or wireless data equipment via NorcomCT, formerly Northeastern Communications Inc. CDPR made the purchase May 14.
  • $1.3 million with Motorola Solutions for “S0856114 APX8000 All Band Portable Model 3.5,” possibly a reference to the company’s APX 8000 All-Band public safety portable radios. CDPR made the purchase May 17.
  • $1 million with NWN Corp. for “LIC-MV-5YR Meraki MV Enterprise License and Support, 5YR,” likely a reference to enterprise-level licensing and support for Cisco’s family of Meraki cameras. CDPR made the purchase Feb. 8.
  • $920,000 with PC Specialists Inc. for what appears to be the purchase of Dell Latitude 5420 business laptop computers with 16GB of memory, Microsoft Windows software and three-year warranties. CDPR made the purchase April 27.
  • $523,000 with Enterprise Networking Solutions Inc. (ENS-Inc) for “R1-10-RBK-R6412S-HW-01-r6412s Appliance, 4-node, 144TB raw HDD, 1.6TB SSD, SFP + NIC,” possibly a reference to the purchase of Rubrik R6412S NAS servers. CDPR made the purchase Jan. 28.
