In Case You Missed It: CIOs on Relationships

“When you look at contracting, the ability to piggyback on, whether it’s cloud contracts, data center, innovation, training, we really need to have a strong partnership with the states, and we want that badly,” said Los Angeles County Chief Information Officer Bill Kehoe.

If you weren’t able to attend last week’s virtual Beyond the Beltway conference, you missed public-sector technology leaders like Los Angeles County Chief Information Officer Bill Kehoe offering real-talk on the relationship between state and local — and where we may be headed as communities emerge from the pandemic.

Kehoe was part of a roster of public- and private-sector technologists who participated in the two-day conference, presented by the Center for Digital Government (CDG). The center is part of e.Republic, parent company to Techwire, Government Technology and other publications.

Asked Friday by host Phil Bertolini, co-director of the CDG, whether states should take an active role in helping local governments implement technology based on new priorities — and whether locals want the help — Kehoe said the answer is absolutely yes.

“When you look at contracting, the ability to piggyback on, whether it’s cloud contracts, data center, innovation, training, we really need to have a strong partnership with the states, and we want that badly,” Kehoe said. “I don’t think all the communication is there right now, and it’s something we all need to work on.”

The two-day conference included numerous breakout panels and discussions, which are available on demand to Techwire Insiders; registration is required.
