IT Director Sought for New City Department

Candidates should have experience and knowledge about all aspects of operations, budgeting, project management and personnel administration. The position has an annual salary range of $161,225 to $195,970.

The city of Santa Barbara is recruiting for an IT director for its newly created Information Technology Department.

“This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead the newly formed Information Technology Department at the city of Santa Barbara,” the job posting says. “The City is seeking a proven and strategic executive leader who has a passion for public service and a determined enthusiasm for providing excellent internal and external customer service. The new information technology director will partner with stakeholders to assess current state and formulate strategic plans to fully build the department, streamlining and integrating key business initiatives and plans within the City structure.”

The city created the IT Department in the current fiscal year with 18 employees and a $5 million capital and operating budget.

“The department includes a management and supervisory team consisting of an IT manager and two Information Systems supervisors,” the posting notes. “Each manager and supervisor leads the daily operations and activities of their respective assigned areas.” 

The position calls for collaboration on strategy and operations, innovation, use of in-house personnel and appropriate use of contractors for service delivery, optimizing methods and tools to accelerate transformative changes of modernization, “and to provide for a future-proof technology foundation of flexible and scalable systems to speed the release of IT products and support to the organization.”
