L.A. County Adds to UX Focus With New Child Protection Website

Los Angeles County's Office of Child Protection has launched a new website, one of several steps the county is taking to support child protection services.

The site was built with agile rapid development methods and is meant to create an intuitive user experience, much like other Los Angeles County programs.

The county is also considering an AI-directed phone system for its child abuse hotline, to speed up the reporting process.

"OCP is considered to be one of the Board of Supervisors’ and the county’s top priorities," according to the chief information officer in the Executive Office.

"The overarching goal of the OCP is to work with a wide variety of partners to improve the child welfare system as a whole. We want to promote a shared ownership of the solutions developed to address the difficult problems that exist. As the problems and answers in this arena are multi-dimensional, so is the role of the OCP," the CIO's office wrote to Techwire in an email.

The office focuses on using data and integrated systems to address those needs.

Before the full site launched, it was a page on the Board of Supervisors' site.

"The website includes OCP’s detailed action plan which highlights work to date in the categories of prevention, safety, permanency, well-being, and cross-cutting approaches. The website also includes numerous Reports and Communications including OCP progress updates."
