Large Agency Recruiting for Chief Technology Officer

The CTO will have full management responsibility for “planning, organizing, directing and coordinating critical and often highly sensitive information technology projects, infrastructure, and applications" within the department.

A large state agency is recruiting for a Chief Technology Officer (IT Manager II) to command the Information Technology Section (ITS).

The CTO of the California Highway Patrol will have full management responsibility for “planning, organizing, directing and coordinating critical and often highly sensitive information technology projects, infrastructure, and applications that support the department's mission,” the job posting says. 

“As the commander of ITS, the ITM II has full management responsibility of five groups including Application Services, Infrastructure Services, Technical Services, Project Management and Customer Support, and Network Services, comprising of more than 100 staff members.”

The position includes leadership of a large, highly complex IT section charged with the development, maintenance and support of critical and sensitive intra- and inter-departmental projects, the posting says.

Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications addressing the following:

  • Describe your experience implementing and managing large-scale complex IT projects that included hardware, software, personnel and vendor management.
  • Describe your experience providing leadership and management to teams and how you have demonstrated your ability to create a clear vision, set goals and expectations, encourage leadership, and enhance teamwork at all levels.
  • Describe an example of a time when you provided leadership to others by leveraging your knowledge and abilities to offer prescriptive guidance on shaping technology strategy to focus and move towards new approaches. How did you address differences of opinion and develop a unified direction among the team?
The position has a monthly salary range of $9,262 and $11,258, and the application deadline is Feb. 18.
