Latinas in Tech Panel on Leadership to Meet

The Sacramento chapter of Latinas in Tech will host an event Sept. 25 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.

The Sacramento chapter of Latinas in Tech will host an event Sept. 25 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.

The nonprofit networking and professional development group opened this newest chapter in May.

"Latinas in Tech is focused on empowering and connecting Latinas through three key pillars: Professional Development, Recruiting and Mentorship," board member Cruz Nieto told Techwire in an email. "The LiT framework includes holding an event every two months (hosted by a Tech company). These events are no cost, 2 hours in duration that includes 1 hour of networking and 1 hour of learning from Latina panelists centered around a theme with the intent to guide attendees with professional development tips."

The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento, Liliana Ferrer, will speak about how Latina women have risen to the top of their industry.

"The September 25 meeting will feature Miriam Barcellona Ingenito and Gina Lujan, who will share their executive experiences and professional development tips on how to advance to an executive position," Nieto said.

Board member Monica Barrios, of the California Department of Technology, will moderate the panel discussion.

The group is made up of more than 3,000 women across six chapters and working in more than 40 tech companies.

"This event is perfect for Latinas who want to get into Tech or working in the Tech ecosystem including but not limited to human resources, marketing, public relations, government relations, business analysis, project management, system development, graphic artists or an ally committed to organizational diversity and inclusion in a hiring capacity," Nieto said.

The group's first event has already placed a woman, who is new to tech, into an internship, according to Nieto.

"We also want this community to get to the point where they are sharing resources among themselves. We envision this community collaborating by posting jobs, resources and supporting each other," Nieto said.

The event is free.
