California legislation can affect multiple parts of the technology industry, from who pays for electric car charging stations to how online transactions are handled, the hearings taking place next week could change the game.

Chairman David Chiu (D-San Francisco) will oversee the hearing for SB 1016, which will handle how electric vehicle stations are assigned, especially in common interest developments. The legislation, authored by Senator Ben Allen (R-Redondo Beach), will be discussed Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Room 126.

Net neutrality will be discussed in a Wednesday meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Room 437. Senator Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles) authored SB 460, which focuses on Internet access under chair Miguel Santiago (D-53).

SB 929 would require special districts to build and support their own websites. The bill, authored by Senator Mike McGuire (D-North Bay), will be heard Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Room 447 under chair Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-04).

Another item to consider is SB 833, which has passed into the Assembly. The bill would require counties to follow statewide procedures for emergency warning systems.
