Longtime CDT Manager Named to New Workforce Development Role

The new assistant deputy director will lead the staff in academy planning and execution and will lead the effort in re-establishing the mentoring program at CDT. He will take on the internal focus at the Office of Professional Development, freeing Deputy Director Brenda Bridges Cruz to work on apprenticeships, workforce development and the education pipeline.

The longtime marketing manager for the California Department of Technology (CDT), Michael Todd, has been named to a new role.

Todd, who was CDT's marketing manager for the last 10 years, was recently named to the newly created position of assistant deputy director over the Office of Professional Development (OPD) for CDT. His focus will be to help OPD with statewide workforce development.

“I’m happy to have Michael as a part of the management team,” said OPD Deputy Director Brenda Bridges Cruz. “Michael’s experience as CDT’s marketing manager makes him a natural fit to help us recruit people for the academies and continuously improve CDT’s ongoing training offerings.”

Todd will lead staff in academy planning and execution as well as lead the effort in re-establishing the mentoring program at CDT. He will take on the internal focus at OPD, allowing Bridges Cruz to focus on external programs including apprenticeships, workforce development and the education pipeline to help schools and colleges train people for critical statewide IT positions.

Bridges Cruz has been a visible champion of CDT’s workforce development efforts, most recently during last week’s announcement of a public-private apprenticeship program involving several state government departments and IBM.

Todd will bring additional emphasis to recruitment for CDT’s four career-development academies — the flagship Information Technology Leadership Academy (ITLA), the Project Management Leadership Academy, the Digital Services Innovation Academy and the Information Security Leadership Academy.
