Los Angeles CTO Peter Marx Departs, Jeanne Holm Named as Replacement

Marx is credited with leading projects around broadband, legacy system upgrades and open data.

Effective July 8, Los Angeles Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Peter Marx departed the city for a position with General Electric, according to a report from Variety. Serving first as the city's chief innovation technology officer and then CTO under Mayor Eric Garcetti for the last two-plus years, Marx is credited with leading projects around broadband, legacy system upgrades and open data.

On July 11, Garcetti's office announced the appointment of Jeanne Holm, who will serve as a replacement to Marx, according to a city spokesperson. Her official title will be senior technology advisor to the mayor. Holm joined the city in April, serving as the city's deputy CIO and assistant general manager.

"The appointment of Jeanne Holm as senior technology advisor builds on our work to use emerging technologies to better communicate with everyday Angelenos and drive innovation in transportation, public safety, sustainability and economic development," Garcetti said in a press release. "I would like to thank Peter Marx for his work to lay the foundation for a more connected Los Angeles. During his time with the city, he played a key role in bringing more broadband to L.A., negotiating data-sharing agreements, and developing the Go LA and MyLA311 apps. He will be missed at City Hall, but I know that he will continue to do excellent work in the tech community.”

Before joining the city, Holm served as chief knowledge architect at NASA and JPL, and also served as evangelist for Data.gov. More recently, she was an open data senior consultant at World Bank Group, and CIO and director of education and communities at World Peace One, a group that organizes events around stopping violence, like Live Aid.
