San Jose International Airport, in the midst of an expansion and IT upgrade, is recruiting for an IT Infrastructure Project Manager to help oversee significant components of that growth.

The project manager (PM) will report to the technology manager for the city-owned airport, which has embarked on large-scale IT projects including new airline tenants and tenant relocations; infrastructure cabling architecture, design and buildouts; airport building expansions with related technology components; and telephony upgrades.

“With the airport’s unprecedented growth of passenger traffic and the increased demand for technology infrastructure, the Infrastructure Project Manager will need to be flexible, knowledgeable, and can work well with all levels,” the airport authority’s recruiting announcement says. “The airport projects have defined due dates, and it is critical that this individual can manage, negotiate, and successfully complete key projects on time.”

The PM’s responsibilities include:

  • Serve as project lead for a Wi-Fi upgrade project
  • Serve as project lead for a network replacement project
  • Supervise the infrastructure team
  • Work on innovative technology projects “to enhance the passenger experience”
  • Serve in other technology project lead or support capacities as assigned
The PM position, which has a job classification of Supervising Applications Analyst, also will help define the scope and scheduling of project requests; ensure the use of professional project practices including agile, LEAN and other applicable methods; and oversee functional, technical and vendor staffs to achieve successful project outcomes.

The new PM will be a “confident decision maker with a track record of producing results,” the posting says.

The airport department is an enterprise operation that receives no General Fund support from the city of San Jose. It has an 11-member Airport Commission, which is appointed by the mayor and City Council. Members of the Airport Commission serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council and to the director of aviation on issues relating to the airport.

The authorized salary range for this position is $114,150 to $139,006, and the actual salary may vary, depending on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition, employees in this classification will also receive an approximate 5 percent pay bonus.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 27, with initial screening beginning Oct. 21. More information and an application link are available online.
