Public-sector IT folk have less than a week remaining to apply for a web systems position at the nation’s third-largest transit agency.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro), which this year has worked to capitalize on new payment technology, wants to hire a web systems developer (technical lead) who could potentially interact with some of those very same tools. The job listing closes Monday. Among the takeaways:

• The position’s basic function is deploying and maintaining all aspects of “web systems engineering, web software engineering, and web database administration for customer-facing websites, tools, and applications” in communications, according to the job listing. The agency has been planning next steps since working last fall with Salesforce to introduce TAPForce, a new Salesforce engagement layer created by Publicis.Sapient that deployed a cloud-based electronic wallet function for its Transit Access Pass (TAP) card. Robin O’Hara, executive officer and head of customer experience for the TAP program, has told Techwire the agency sees it as a way for customers to load and store funds from credit and debit cards and cash, then buy transportation from “cloud-based and account-based entities.”

• The new developer’s duties will include reviewing software releases to recommend updates; identifying “complex technical problems” connected to “web platform management, database administration (and) network connectivity” to an IT services operating unit; overseeing web software development and enhancement; and supervising a team of technical staff.

• He or she will also do web system analysis, and design, implement and integrate “complex web application information systems”; do “programming, system analysis and design of complex web systems using Information System Development Methodology” across a multi-platform infrastructure; and lead consultants in “the analysis, design, implementation and integration of web systems.”

• The new hire will also be responsible for managing web data storage for efficiency; setting up and maintaining “security and controls access for all web databases and storage”; overseeing and setting up processes for database backup and recovery, security, fault tolerance, and scalability; supporting disaster recovery efforts at remote sites; and performing web database service pack upgrades and release upgrades.

• The position’s salary range is $84,468-$126,672 annually, and a bachelor’s degree is required in computer science, business information system technology, integrated media or a related field, along with four years of experience “maintaining web systems, web software engineering, and web database administration,” with two years “supervisory experience in developing web/online systems.” Preferred qualifications include experience with RESTful APIs and microservices; using Python/Django and PostgreSQL with spatial (PostGIS) extensions; using “UNIX-flavored environment”; and using “NGINX configuration with SSL (LetsEncrypt/AWS).”
