Master Plan Calls for Data Analytics, Management Systems

San Leandro will follow a fiber optics master plan to expand and increase utilization of the city's fiber network.

For vendors and contractors, fiber opportunities could include:

• Smart facilities management systems
• Intelligent traffic systems
• Smart streetlights
• Small cell and 5G deployment
• Data analytics for public safety
• Public Wi-Fi and infrastructure

The plan offers a road map for future conduits as well as expanding the Lit San Leandro partnership. The city also outlined a way to develop Smart City initiatives especially for public safety, transportation, digital inclusion and services.

Policy recommendations that would support broadband rollout and residential service incentives were also included in the outline.

The plan took about a year to create, with the help of Magellan Advisors, and was approved by the City Council last month.
