Natural Resources Agency Houses Data in New Site

The California Natural Resources Agency launched a new website this week to house more than 1,300 maps and data sets.

Data sets from four state entities — the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Department of Water Resources, the Energy Commission and the Ocean Protection Council — are included.

“The CNRA [California Natural Resources Agency] Open Data Platform has been developed to provide data to state of California citizens, agencies, and interested stakeholders in a transparent and useful manner," the site says. "The Open Data Platform supports the CNRA organizations’ and programs’ missions by providing an environment to publish and share useful data that can be effectively utilized by all,” the site reads.

The information is segmented into topics such as recreation, wildlife and conservation. Data sets are accessible in HTML, ZIP and CSV file formats. The site includes training on how to access, manage and edit data sets.

The site is built on OpenGov and CKAN technology and is based on application programming interface so the data will be readable by multiple operating systems.
