Newsom Names Ex-Assemblymember Fletcher to Air Board

Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed former state Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher to the California Air Resources Board.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed former state Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher to the California Air Resources Board.

Fletcher, a Marine Corps veteran, serves on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and is a professor at the University of California at San Diego. His wife is Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.

Fletcher, 42, has been a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District since 2019, according to a news release from Newsom's office. Since 2013, Fletcher has been a professor of practice in political science at UCSD.

Fletcher was senior director for global strategic initiatives for Qualcomm from 2013 to 2017. He served as a member of the Assembly from 2008 to 2012. He is a member of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System Board of Directors, the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, and the San Diego Association of Governments’ Transportation Committee.

This position requires Senate confirmation, and the compensation is normally $48,789, but Fletcher is not eligible to receive it since he is an elected official. Fletcher is a Democrat.
