Gov. Gavin Newsom has appointed former state Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher to the California Air Resources Board.

Fletcher, a Marine Corps veteran, serves on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and is a professor at the University of California at San Diego. His wife is Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez.

Fletcher, 42, has been a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District since 2019, according to a news release from Newsom's office. Since 2013, Fletcher has been a professor of practice in political science at UCSD.

Fletcher was senior director for global strategic initiatives for Qualcomm from 2013 to 2017. He served as a member of the Assembly from 2008 to 2012.
