The California Office of Digital Innovation (ODI) is recruiting for four contract roles to join as part of the team that’s managing the state’s COVID19.CA.gov website.

Two full-time roles are in recruitment — front-end developer and full-stack developer. In addition, ODI seeks to fill two 20-hour-per-week roles, for a UX (user experience) designer position and a user researcher role.

The front-end developers are responsible for creating sites and pages that set new standards for front-end performance on state digital properties, said JP Petrucione, ODI’s deputy director for communications and communications lead for the state’s alpha.ca.gov project within ODI.

“They prioritize building for all Californians by constantly measuring and testing against low-end hardware and accessibility features across a wide range of abilities and situations,” Petrucione told Techwire in an email. “This is a full-time contract role through April 2021.”

ODI’s full-stack developers are responsible for creating Web applications that “set new bars for performance on state digital properties,” Petrucione said.

“Our designers are responsible for establishing the design system and information architecture and creating assets for covid19.ca.gov properties to ensure we deliver excellent user experiences for all Californians,” Petrucione said. “This is a part-time contract role (20 hours per week) through April 2021. This job is remote, and the designer does not need to be based in California, but it requires the designer to be available during California business hours.”

ODI’s user researchers are responsible for planning, organizing and conducting user research with Californians who are navigating various information and service needs, developing recommendations based on findings, and building user research capacity in others with whom they work, Petrucione explained. The user research recruitment is for a part-time contract role (20 hours per week), possibly up to full time, through April 2021.

ODI is under the umbrella of the California Government Operations Agency. ODI’s first director, Udaya Patnaik, was appointed in May.
