Office of Systems Integration Recruiting for Deputy Director

Project management is primary area of responsibility for this senior leadership position. Candidates should note that the position is an influential one and requires especially keen judgment.

The state Office of Systems Integration (OSI) is recruiting for a deputy director (Career Executive Assignment) to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of IT project management and the overall success of OSI and state sponsors’ project portfolio.

The responsibilities include managing “stakeholder involvement” for the Project Management (PM) Division and representing OSI with the Legislature and governmental, public and private agencies, as well as testifying in legislative hearings, according to the job posting. The position is part of the OSI senior leadership team.

OSI is part of the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS). It’s led by Director Dan Kalamaras and Chief Deputy Director Brian Wong.

“The IT systems are used by recipients of health and human services,” according to the duty statement, which is accessible from the job posting. “As such, the projects are subject to significant public, media and legislative scrutiny. The incumbent must understand the criticality of the relationships between budgets/fiscal operations and all aspects of administrative operations such as the development of complex spending plans, tracking of critical contractual term dates, creation of successful feasibility studies and Budget Change Proposals, and legislative analyses of proposed legislation.”

Candidates should be aware that the position is influential and requires solid judgment.

“The impact of the deputy director’s decisions is significant, given the PM Division’s multimillion-dollar portfolio,” the duty statement notes. “Consequently, decisions made by the incumbent impact the delivery of services to millions of recipients throughout California. Poor decision-making could adversely affect the health and safety of California’s most vulnerable citizens, and could reflect poorly on the OSI, the CHHS Agency and could precipitate significant public, media and legislative scrutiny.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $10,360 to $12,341, and the application deadline is Feb. 7.
