Office of Traffic Safety Recruiting for Deputy Director for Technology

The state Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), part of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), is recruiting for a key executive role involving technology.

The Traffic Safety Office is seeking a deputy director (Career Executive Assignment) to oversee technology and administration. The deputy director will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all administrative and digital services activities for the statewide traffic safety program. The incumbent participates in making policy decisions and represents the office at budget hearings, chief deputy directors’ meetings at the California State Transportation Agency and at other high-level meetings, as required.

The mission of OTS is to “effectively administer traffic safety grants that deliver innovative programs and eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries on California roadways.”

Desirable qualifications for the position, according to the job posting, include:
  • Academic coursework at the university level. Training and experience in the area of supervision and management principles.
  • Ability to reason logically and creatively.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a level of professional integrity to ensure that the best interests of the California Department of Transportation and the program are served.
  • Ability to work well with partners and clients.

The duty statement for the position notes that the deputy director also functions as the office personnel officer, training officer, labor relations officer, equal employment officer and ethics officer.

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,781 to $11,183, and the application deadline is May 20.
