Open State IT Jobs Include CIO, Deputy Director

Two state departments are seeking to fill key executive positions in the IT field. For one, the filing deadline is Thursday.

The deadline is Thursday for interested candidates to apply for the position of chief information officer for Management Information Systems in a state government department.

The CIO position is with the California Prison Industry Authority.

The position is considered a Career Executive Assignment (CEA) by CalHR, which states: “CEAs are to be limited to only the highest, most critical positions that have continuous, direct interface with department directors and constitute the executive management team. ... Significant policy creation and program management responsibility are a mandatory aspect of CEA positions. CEA positions must possess the authority to directly influence policies or manage programs pertaining to the departmental mission. CEAs must serve as the chief policy-maker within their respective program area.”

The CIO reports to the chief financial officer, who directs administrative IT functions of CalPIA. The CIO functions as a key policy adviser to the CFO and general manager on all administrative IT matters and their related program impact.

Application criteria for the CIO-MIS position are spelled out on the CalHR website.

The state also has an opening for a deputy director of the Department of Managed Health Care's Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI). The position is responsible for policy development, implementation and oversight of all aspects of IT and statistical analysis of all DMHC data and business processes. The department protects the health care rights of more than 25 million Californians by regulating health care service plans, assisting consumers through a consumer Help Center, educating consumers on their rights and responsibilities and preserving the financial stability of the managed health-care system.

The filing deadline for this position, which is also a CEA position, is Nov. 28. Application details and criteria are available on the DMHC website.
