Outgoing CTO to Become CIO

Mike Sakamoto will leave his position as the Department of Health Care Services' chief technology officer on March 12.

The Department of Developmental Services will have a new CIO and IT Deputy Director in mid-March.

Mike Sakamoto will leave his position as the Chief Technology Officer at the Department of Health Care Services on March 12.

Sakamoto has served at CDHS, CalPERS, CalSTRS and the Employment Development Department, among others, for the last 12 years. He will bring his experience with technology business management, enterprise architecture and operations to the new position.

Sakamoto received his bachelor’s in business management from Columbia Pacific University with a background in computer science from Stanford. He has gone on to receive his Leadership for the Government Executive certificate from Sacramento State. He has also earned TOGAF 8 and ITIL v3 certifications to support architecture frameworks and IT business practices, respectively.

Before his state service, Sakamoto worked for Hewlett Packard for more than 20 years, 14 of which were in research and design.
