For those enterprising vendors who can look at raw numbers and see business opportunities, Los Angeles County's Data Center 1 (DC1), which opened in May 2017, is a jackpot

It's run by the largest county in the nation (11 million residents), and it's one of the largest data centers west of the Rockies.

DC1, operated by the L.A. County Internal Services Department (ISD) under General Manager Dave Wesolik, offers a suite of IT services

The data center provides Internet access to 46,000 users.

It stores more than 32.6 million documents

DC1 conducts 83 million mainframe transactions per month.

It has 6 petabytes of storage.

DC1 offers 2,941 virtual servers, 603 databases and 430 public-facing websites.

DC1 serves 35 departments.

It offers a single-pane tool that allows construction of a custom IT infrastructure.

Its offerings include network services, security, management, orchestration, monitoring, and virtual and physical network visibility.

Building capacity: 181,489 square feet (53,000 square feet raised).

The data center is Tier III-plus for mechanical, engineering and plumbing.

DC1 features an on-site power substation that yields a 20 to 30 percent cost savings on power.

The substation generates 15.9 megawatts (critical IT load of 7,400 Kilowatts, expandable to 15,900 kilowatts).

It's certified LEED Silver for energy efficiency.
