Procurement Updates, Cloud Migration, Cal.net on Forum Agenda

Statewide procurement modernization, cloud migration and the Cal.net strategy are on the agenda for the Vendor/Partner Forum scheduled for next week in Sacramento.

Statewide procurement modernization, cloud migration and the Cal.net strategy are on the agenda for the Vendor/Partner Forum scheduled for next Wednesday, May 9, in Sacramento.

The event, which is presented by the California Department of Technology and the state Department of General Services, runs from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the California Lottery building, 700 N. 10th St. Registration can be done online.

Stephanie Tom, deputy director of Broadband and Digital Literacy for CDT, explained the aim of the event, which is held every spring and fall:

“The purpose of the Partner Forum is to provide an opportunity for the state’s IT and procurement leaders to meet with technology vendors to share and discuss current and future IT projects and changes in policy and planning. ... Together, CDT, DGS and its technology partners strive to develop, deliver and provide the most cost-effective services and solutions for government entities.”

Scheduled speakers this year are Chris Cruz, California's deputy chief information officer and chief deputy director of CDT; and Angela Shell, deputy director of the Procurement Division for DGS. At last fall’s event, speakers included Cruz and state CIO Amy Tong.

The forum is a chance for representatives of CDT, DGS and the private sector “to meet in person and ensure all organizations are in sync regarding planning, projects, and policy,” Tom told Techwire. “Also, the format and cadence of the Partner Forum support a consistent and ongoing dialogue which complements the day-to-day interactions between the state and IT vendors working on various projects. ... Overall, the Partner Forum enhances the relationship between the state and its IT vendors, and serves as a checkpoint to ensure, together, we are focused on the needs of Californians.”

During the forums, state officials will answer questions and address any policy or procedural issues. Techwire will cover the event, as it did last fall's forum.
