  • The FAA has set out to relax restrictions on drones, and to that end, it's allowing local government and private partners to run tests doing exactly the kinds of things they can’t currently do. California is among the places on the list.
  • In a successful RFP, the devil can be in the details, says a post from Pondera Solutions' prolific blogger, CEO Jon Coss. Though the piece was published last summer, it's as relevant as ever.
  • The Chinese government signed a deal Thursday with California-based Hyperloop Transportation Technologies to build a track for a futuristic high-speed transportation system in one of China's poorest provinces.
  • Forget the notion of an integrated smart city platform for a moment, says Jonathan Reichental, chief information officer for the city of Palo Alto. “What does a park system, a police system, and a library system even have in common?”
  • Berkeley is in the news again for its interest in blockchain bonds as a means of financing civic improvements. And health-care companies aren't far behind in looking at the distributed-ledger technology for its potential.
  • "The complexity of AI science may lead policymakers and the public to believe the tech industry is best positioned to decide the future of AI.
