Recruitments Underway for IT Roles in GIS, Information Security, Data Architecture

State entities seeking candidates include those related to technology, cannabis control, emergency operations and fire prevention.

A variety of specialty positions are in recruitment by state government departments, including those that oversee emergency operations, cannabis and technology.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is recruiting for a data architect (IT specialist III) to lead the Data and Geospatial Services Unit and work with system and software engineers in delivering technical solutions and support to internal Cal OES partners.

“The incumbent will have experience in partner-facing roles and success in operating within enterprise-scale system environments,” the job posting says. “The incumbent serves as a specialized adviser providing expertise and strategic technical direction in developing architectural platforms, data performance and systems aligned with current and future organizational needs.”

In addition, the posting notes, the data architect role “requires expert-level knowledge and hands-on experience in designing efficient and complex data designs for transaction processing, data analytics, and data warehousing. The incumbent utilizes master-level expertise and skills in future technology trends, technical components, interfaces, protocols and architectures to advise management on formulating a data management strategy, policy and governance.”

Desirable qualifications to the position, according to the posting and the duty statement, include:
  • Knowledge of state, county, or local government emergency operations and services.

Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Providing input and participating in the planning, development and management of efforts of information security incident responsibilities.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is recruiting for a manager (IT manager I) to oversee CDT’s Data Center Computer Room Management team. The manager is responsible for a team of professionals who handle all Data Center Computer Room functions at the state’s Gold Camp and Vacaville facilities, according to the job posting.

The California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) is recruiting for a section chief (IT manager I) to plan, organize and direct activities associated with the development, implementation and support for DCC’s Infrastructure and Enterprise Section (IES).

“As part of the management team, the section chief is responsible for coordinating the activities of multiple complex IT functions” across multiple disciplines and involving different technical environments, the job posting says. “The incumbent possesses a high degree of independence and good judgment for assigned projects and for guidance for web solutions that streamline government processes.” Additional responsibilities, according to the posting and the duty statement, include:
