San Joaquin County Seeking New CIO to Succeed Becker

San Joaquin County is recruiting for “an innovative and dynamic” chief information officer to take the reins of IT operations in the county, which has won numerous prestigious tech awards in recent years.

San Joaquin County is recruiting for “an innovative and dynamic” chief information officer to take the reins of IT operations in the county, which has won numerous prestigious tech awards in recent years.

“Successful candidates will have experience leading the business of information technology in a large complex organization, and be a transformative leader and business partner with exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and verbal communication skills,” says the county’s job posting.

Jerry Becker, who for 19 years was in county IT leadership including 12 years as CIO, was promoted to assistant county administrator in October. Becker is also president of the California County Information Services Directors Association (CCISDA).

 “I highly recommend the job,” he says in a LinkedIn post advertising the position.

Another award-winning county CIO, Steve Monaghan of Nevada County, noted: “Jerry built an incredible team and shop as CIO in San Joaquin County. The incoming CIO will be very fortunate to join such a well-run, award-winning organization.”

San Joaquin has been honored as one of America’s top 10 digital counties in its population category. The Center for Digital Government* and the National Association of Counties recognized the county in 2017 and 2018 for its innovation, strategy and collaboration.  

The CIO position has a salary range of $157,414 to $191,339, and more information is available online. Applications are being accepted here, and the deadline is Dec. 31.
