The longtime IT manager for the city of San Jose, Kathy Lang, has died after an ongoing health issue.

Lang had been city IT manager for almost 34 years, beginning in September 1986, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Brad Walker, executive director of the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC), took note of Lang’s passing in this week’s newsletter, quoting the city’s chief information officer, Rob Lloyd:

“Kathy Lang passed away this weekend,” Lloyd was quoted as saying. “She had been battling a health issue. I know how giving she was of MISAC and how well she represented MISAC to her City of San Jose peers. I’ll share more info if/when we receive it. With a sad heart, Rob.”

Walker wrote: “The entire MISAC family passes along its condolences to Kathy’s family, including her extended family in the IT Department at the City of San Jose.”

Through her long tenure with the city, Lang was also active in workplace programs and professional organizations. She held leadership roles in the city’s employee arts program and a city mentoring program, and she helped lead various associations including the International City/County Management Association, the Municipal Management Association of Northern California, the San Jose Management Association and MISAC, for which she was Northern California chapter secretary.

Lang had bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Jose State University.
