The city of San Jose hired its first chief information security officer.

Marcelo Peredo holds a doctorate in information assurance and more than 28 years of software and security experience. He began his CISO position in April, after a run of almost three years as San Diego County's contract CISO through DXC Technology.

There Peredo spent time implementing a NIST Risk Management Framework and creating an IT Security Roadmap for San Diego County. He worked with the CIO to report the security posture and plan, while overseeing all components of IT security for the county.

Before creating education programs and assembling a team of security experts for San Diego, Peredo was CISO for Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Hewlett-Packard.

He also spent just under three years as a project manager for the enterprise systems behind a law enforcement agency and all its offices. That position included creating a data plan and collection process.

Peredo will use his security and compliance experience to help shape the new position.

Techwire is pursuing an interview with Peredo, check back for coverage on the city's security plans.
