Being a project manager and a product champion are part of the role the city is seeking to fill for multiple openings. Successful candidates will “analyze trends, customer requirements, input from a diverse set of stakeholders, and process re-engineering/innovation opportunities to establish product vision and strategy.”

The city of San Jose is recruiting for several product/project managers to manage a portfolio of projects, products and platforms.

  • Emergency management technologies.
  • Integrated permitting and development services transformation.
  • Data governance and business analytics.
  • Mobile and wireless communications.
  • Business process improvement and automation.
  • Internet of Things platforms and services.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Product Strategy and Roadmap: Manage the life cycle of information systems solutions and platforms in support of assigned objectives, key results, and partners. “Analyze trends, customer requirements, input from a diverse set of stakeholders, and process re-engineering/innovation opportunities to establish product vision and strategy.”
  • Set product roadmap for uses, features and integrations.
  • Requirements Management: Translate customer requirements into buildable features, coordinate feature decisions, prioritize diverse demand, and integrate into product planning and development. 
  • Lead rollout of new features in coordination with city teams, vendors, partners and testing teams to ensure a positive experience for customers and staff. Ensure the effective release and maintenance of services, including re-engineering processes, monitoring, automation, and communications routing.
San Jose is the nation’s 10th-largest city and has an annual budget of $4.3 billion. The city has 7,000 employees serving over 1 million residents and businesses across 180 square miles. The city’s chief information officer is Rob Lloyd, who has been expanding the city’s IT operation. Three months ago, the city promoted Amanda Le to deputy CIO for infrastructure and operations. She’s been part of Lloyd’s executive IT team for three years.
