State Agencies Recruiting for 3 Positions, Including CIO

The openings include a chief information officer, an IT specialist and a section chief. Application deadlines for all three positions are within two weeks.

Three state government agencies are recruiting for high-level openings, including a position for a chief information officer.

The Department of State Hospitals is searching for a chief information officer (CIO) who will also serve as deputy director of the Technology Services Division. The position is classified as a Career Executive Assignment (C.E.A.). The deputy director, who reports to the chief deputy director, “is responsible for policy formation and implementation for the department’s statewide information technology systems and operations.” The person also plans, organizes and directs the development, operation, security and maintenance of IT systems, data management, IT program management, strategic planning and IT procurement.

In addition, the deputy director is the key strategic and policy adviser to the executive team and deputy directors regarding automation issues, policies and trends, and participates in the development of overall departmental strategies, policies and priorities. Under the guidance of the California Health and Human Services (CHHS) agency information officer, the person will ensure that the department’s IT strategies, policies and implementation align with the CHHS strategic plan and in alignment with the policy requirements of the California Department of Technology (CDT).

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is recruiting for an IT Specialist II to serve as a key member of the CPUC Information Technology Services Division. The position’s duties and activities are performed primarily within the Systems Engineering and Information Security Engineering technical domains. The incumbent will provide “expert-level skills in support of infrastructure that provides business-enabling technology services to the California Public Utilities Commission. The position performs critical technical services in support of the CPUC programs, strategic goals and business objectives.”

“The IT Specialist II will work independently as the recognized technical specialist on the maintenance of the most complex software systems and software projects, and/or acts as a leader on projects involving the conversion to the most complex computer configurations,” the job posting says. “In addition, this position has high-level analytical and systems administration responsibility; coordinates project and systems administration work; provides guidance to systems administration, storage administration, and VMware administration team members; and assures the CPUC systems are secure and available. Provide subject matter expertise support on Windows, VMware, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and storage subsystems, which together are referred to as infrastructure systems.”

The California Secretary of State’s Office is seeking a section chief for the office’s System Engineering Section, a position classified as an IT Manager I. Responsibilities include system and network administration, cloud services and data center management. The section chief will provide strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of IT systems, including infrastructure engineering, operations and support.
