State Agencies Recruiting for Database Engineer, IT Chief of Staff

The California Department of Technology and the Department of State Hospitals are closing applications for both positions within a week.

Two state agencies are recruiting for professionals in two specialties.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking a database engineer (IT Specialist II) to serve “as an advance level technical software support specialist working with a team of highly trained professionals in support of the database components of a zSystem and client/server computing environment,” the job posting states. “Works independently, as a team leader or as a team member. Provides a variety of software support services for customer departments.” Other responsibilities include:

  • Install, maintain, test, monitor, and tune complex vendor software products and other third-party vendor database software products and/or general-purpose software products in these computing environments.
  • Develop and maintain customized online and/or batch interfaces and exits to the software.
  • Provide consultation and support as needed to support the customer department staff in the use of these products.
  • Quickly, efficiently, and effectively troubleshoot and resolve the complex customer problems and proactively identify possible future problems.
  • Develop and maintain project plans in support of CDT Strategic and Tactical Plans.

The Department of State Hospitals is recruiting for a chief of staff (IT Specialist III) to oversee the department’s Technology Services Division’s operations and to partner with the chief information officer. The chief of staff “provides expert level leadership in the areas of IT strategy and strategic planning, project governance, portfolio management and the development and implementation of key performance indicators and other metrics necessary to be implemented and measured in order for TSD to track the effectiveness of its projects,” according to the job posting. The position has a monthly salary range of 8,119 to $10,880, and the application deadline is Sept. 7.
