State Agencies Recruiting for IT Supervisors, Specialists

The departments include the Office of Legislative Counsel, the California Department of Veterans Affairs, the California Department of Technology and the Employment Development Department.

State agencies are recruiting for several noteworthy IT positions, according to announcements posted Tuesday.

The Office of Legislative Counsel (OCL) is seeking an IT Support Services supervisor (IT Supervisor II) to “consult with legislative support organizations to ensure that service delivery meets operational, project, and budget requirements; evaluate trends, integrate industry service standards, and implement process improvements; and prepare and make presentations, facilitate meetings with Support Services staff, and coordinate efforts with each of the customer service groups,” the job posting says. “The incumbent will also utilize available technical expertise and business specialists throughout the OLC to continuously improve service delivery, develop operational plans, and resolve technical issues. The oversight provided by the incumbent is a critical delivery mechanism for all enterprise information technology solutions of the OLC.” The position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is July 21.

The California Department of Veterans Affairs is recruiting for an IT Supervisor II to oversee the IT Procurement and Administrative Support Unit, which consists of IT purchasing, contracting, budgeting, and administrative activities. “The supervisor must apply a high level of organizational understanding in formulating strategies and policies pertaining to State of California IT purchasing, contracting, budgeting, and control agency compliance,” the job posting says. “The incumbent participates in IT projects as a procurement subject matter expert; conducts IT purchases and contracts; monitors IT budget expenditures; and manages complex contracts. The incumbent directs the efforts of staff in implementing and monitoring compliance with control agency reporting requirements including the IT Capital Plan and IT Cost Report.” The position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is July 17.

The California Department of Technology is seeking an IT Specialist I to serve as a technical project lead, performing analysis, project management, consultation, administrative services, design, technology standards development, and planning tasks related to the administration, implementation and oversight for the most complex statewide telecommunications private industry service suppliers networks for the State of California. “The IT Spec I must be able to interact on a peer-to-peer level with supplier technical resources to ensure supplier network systems and products are compliant,” the job posting says. “The IT Spec I performs at the highest level as a technical consultant to State agency executives, local governments, private industry service suppliers and CALNET Program technical staff addressing the highest level of complex information technology issues for the largest and most complex statewide telecommunications systems.” The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 24.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is recruiting for a technical specialist (IT Specialist I) to oversee the Accounting & Compliance Enterprise System (ACES) Application Section. “The IT Specialist I provides maintenance and operational support of the infrastructure and application of the ACES,” the job posting says. “Duties cover the six domains of the IT Specialist classification with a heavier focus on System Engineering, Software Engineering, Project Management, Security Engineering, and Business Technology Management.” The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 17.

EDD is also seeking an enterprise architect (IT Specialist I) to serve in the System Engineering domain as an Enterprise Architect and be responsible for formulating strategies and leading the development, maintenance, evolution, and use of Employment Development Department's Enterprise Architecture, according to the job posting. Duties will include:

  • Translating business plans and strategic objectives into specific outcomes that lead to innovative business solutions.
  • Creating future-state capabilities and architectures that will achieve them, and determining gaps from current state.
  • Developing road maps that guide the progress of EDD’s business, data, systems and technologies through active collaboration with subject matter experts of all levels.
  • Providing highly technical guidance and consulting to project teams, other architects, governance bodies, and other business and technical areas.
The monthly salary range for the position is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is July 21.
