State Agencies Recruiting for Specialist, Supervisor, Developer

The agencies are the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, the State Compensation Insurance Fund and the California Department of Public Health.

Three state agencies are recruiting to fill senior positions in IT departments.

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is seeking an IT Supervisor II to serve as Web master, working with control agencies to implement website formats, navigation and security requirements and working with OEHHA scientists and the legal team “to implement departmental directives and ensure that OEHHA website content is approved prior to promoting the information to the OEHHA public-facing websites.” OEHHA is one of six departments within the California Environmental Protection Agency.

OEHHA implements the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act and compiles the state’s list of substances that cause cancer or reproductive harm. The office also develops health-protective exposure levels for contaminants in air, water, and soil as guidance for regulatory agencies and the public.  

According to the job posting, these skills are desirable:

  • Ability to analyze and take effective action when responding to issues including knowing when to elevate an issue to the CIO.
  • Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others and gain their respect and confidence.
  • Ability to leave and train staff on various information technology systems, projects, hardware and software.
  • Provide all aspects of supervision including progressive discipline as well as assisting staff with gaining the skills for upward mobility.
The position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the recruitment will be ongoing until the position is filled.

The State Compensation Insurance Fund is recruiting for a Senior Net Developer (IT Specialist II) to provide development support for projects, lead other software engineers to design and implement well-integrated products and define and evolve the architecture for the system.

The tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Be expert in all technical aspects of the product 
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies based on product needs and industry trends
  • Develop creative solutions and write technical design and architecture documents
  • Provide work estimates for proposed projects
  • Cross-train developers on product features that are implemented
  • Constantly look for better processes for projecting and improving project profitability
  • Perform hands-on software design and development in .NET
  • Develop and execute unit tests for product components
  • Establish architectural standards and best practices
The State Compensation Insurance Fund describes itself as “California’s stable provider of worker’s compensation insurance.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,014 to $9,399, according to the job posting, and the recruitment will continue until the position is filled.  

The California Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Retired Annuitant (IT Specialist II) to work on project planning, approvals and initiation; IT project management; and IT project oversight, governance and reporting services. The person will have contact with the Administration division, Director’s Office, the Office of Legal Services, other departments, vendors and control agencies.  

Candidates with the following experience are sought:

  • The California Project Management Framework and the California Project Approval Lifecycle for medium to high complexity projects.
  • IT contract acquisitions including development and approval of procurement documents through contract execution and closeout.
  • IT project reporting.
