State Agencies Recruiting for Variety of IT Specialists

Departments and agencies are seeking to fill positions including information systems engineer, product owner, application architect and developer, and technical lead.

The state is recruiting for several key positions in the IT sector.

The California Department of Public Health is seeking an information security engineer (IT specialist II) to serve as a member of the Security Operations Center (SOC) team. The engineer will provide “expert analysis of cloud and -premises cybersecurity architecture and systems,” the job posting says. In addition, the engineer will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and policies and commercial best practices relating to cloud security.

Responsibilities include reviewing, analyzing and evaluating the implementation of security tools and controls in multiple Information Systems environments, including on-site security systems and dynamic cloud services. The engineer will also evaluate the performance of ongoing security maintenance, for example, continuous monitoring (ConMon) or Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM).

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,365 to $9,869, and the application deadline is April 15.

Covered California is recruiting for a product owner (IT specialist II) who’s also a data management and analytics systems expert who enjoys providing, designing and implementing data solutions.

The ideal candidate, the job posting says, is “an expert to lead and provide technical consultation on data architecture, ad-hoc reporting and analytics, and data integration.” In addition, “this position will be great fit for someone whose previous experience may have included any of the following: ArcGIS, Power BI, Tableau and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Analysis Services.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,365 to $9,869, and the application deadline is April 11.   

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors is recruiting for an IT specialist II to work primarily as an application architect and developer, mostly in the Microsoft.NET technology platform, who has web development skills using technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 

“You will migrate non-standard applications and work to update and enhance current applications due to business needs and to maintain compliance with best practices in security and accessibility,” the job posting says. “You will participate on adoption of third-party Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and cloud products and lead the integration into the CO (Chancellor’s Office) application portfolio. You will be a subject-matter expert on vendor-designed systems with the goal of incorporating them into the CO’s operations.”

The IT specialist will work under supervision of the director of Application Development and Network Support and must “be able to work independently as well as in a collaborative manner with any IT staff,” the job posting says. “As a technical lead, you will apply project and work management skills to plan the Systems Development Lifecycle, and lead or personally perform tasks including business analysis, system design and development, testing, and maintenance and operations. Within the team, the successful candidate will advocate, evangelize and lead application architecture and processes such as change control, enterprise architecture, and version control.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $5,562 to $8,999, and the recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking “an enthusiastic and motivated individual (IT Specialist II) looking for a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding position in a team-oriented environment.”

The ideal candidate, according to the job posting, is “a conscientious applicant who can improve collaboration and execute IT service delivery to various programs that supports CDCR mission.”

The IT specialist “is responsible for establishing procedures, system policies, operations and reference materials for the services provided,” the job posting notes. “The incumbent must use his/her judgment to determine the scope and depth of guidelines for services under their responsibility. … The work involves planning, developing and implementing technological solutions that are essential to the mission of the overall organization and/or affect a large number of CDCR business areas on a long-term basis.” The IT specialist “is responsible and authorized to make significant technical decisions for the security of the enterprise’s data,” the posting says.

The Department of Health Care Services’ (DHCS) Enterprise Technology Services Program (ETS) is seeking a technical lead (IT Specialist II) for the Medi-Cal Rx State Operations -- Pharmacy Carve-Out Project (Medi-Cal Rx).

The IT specialist “will perform architectural impact analysis and data architecture support, develop data architecture in support of new and existing data elements identified in the Design, Development, and Implementation (DD&I) effort, and provide technical subject matter expertise to DHCS program areas for transition activities,” the job posting says.

“This position is responsible for architecture, data integration, security and policy capabilities, and will develop and maintain technical system documentation for Medi-Cal Rx,” the posting says. “This position will assist with preparation of ongoing Medi-Cal Rx data files. The ITS II will act as the technical subject matter expert and provide guidance on technical-related topics. This position will assist to meet the new workload associated with the overall administration of the Medi-Cal Fee For Service pharmacy benefit.”

This position is authorized for 12 months; but it’s “anticipated to be extended up to 24 months and could become a permanent position,” the job posting notes.

The monthly salary range is $7,365 to $9,869, and the application deadline is April 12.
