State Agencies Seek Architect, Chief Deputy Director, Security Officer, Business Analyst

The roles that the state is seeking to fill relate to IT procurement, design, security, governance or operations.

State agencies are recruiting for senior positions in the IT realm.

The Employment Development Department is seeking a principle security architect (IT Specialist III) to support the organization’s enterprise IT operations, including hardware, software and the confidential and sensitive data used at EDD.  

“The incumbent utilizes master-level knowledge and skills in future technology, trends, technical components, interfaces, protocols and/or architectures to advise management on formulating IT strategy, policy and governance throughout EDD,” the job posting says. “The incumbent provides expertise to ensure the integration and interoperability of multiple architectural platforms and systems; to build technology blueprint for current and future organizational needs; and to provide scalable architecture, solution and design.” In addition, he posting says, the architect “has extensive decision-making authority and directs the most critical and complex projects, including the development of enterprise architecture, providing strategic and tactical technical direction, and cross-domain expertise at a deep technical level.”

The monthly salary range for the position is $7,732 to $10,362, and the application deadline is May 31.

The Department of Industrial Relations is recruiting for a chief deputy director to oversee and provide direction for all IT as well as administration (human resources, budgets, accounting, contracting, procurement and facilities), legislation, communications, diversity and inclusion, and legal.  

The ideal leader “will possess the skills to be a good collaborator, negotiator, and relationship builder for the organization,” the job posting says. “Reporting directly to the Director, the Chief Deputy Director oversees all divisions, programs, and offices composed of 3,200 employees at 46 different locations within California with a budget of approximately $853 million per year.”

Applicants for this position, which is appointed by the governor and which doesn’t have a specific job classification, should follow the specific instructions on the job posting. The monthly salary is $12,865 to $13,916, and the recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

The state Employment Training Panel is seeking an information security officer (IT Specialist II) whose duties, according to the job posting, include:

  • Serve as ETP’s chief information security officer. This includes consulting with ETP’s chief information officer and executives on implementing new IT systems or upgrading IT systems, products and services related to security.
  • Serve as ETP’s program privacy officer as the subject matter expert on privacy policy development; review and make recommendations to update department privacy policies.
  • Monitor and analyze department information security posture utilizing information security system administrative centers, alerts, reports, and logs.
  • Provide analysis and advisement related to, participate in strategic planning and preparation for, provide support during, and participate in remediation efforts following state-mandated information security audits and independent assessments.
  • Provide review, analysis, and advisement regarding state information security policy, standards, guidance, letters, and related government code and regulations, and provide support for associated compliance actions and reporting.
The monthly salary range is $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is May 11. 

The Judicial Council of California is recruiting for a senior business systems analyst, to be based in San Francisco or Sacramento. This position will be assigned to the IT New Programs unit (Criminal) and serve as the primary analyst supporting statewide program implementation and ongoing operations, according to the job posting.

“This position will be responsible for branch and program communications, including courts and vendor communications, advising and assisting JC program teams, monitoring project timelines and deliverables, documenting program processes, provide reports on program success, as well as participate in requirements for Request for Proposals (RFPs), and re-engineering recommendations,” the job posting says.

The position has a monthly salary range of $6,752 to $10,129, and the application deadline is May 10.
