State Agency Recruitments Include Business Analysis, Cybersecurity Roles

Application deadlines for the five key positions are this month. The position classifications include IT Specialist II and IT Supervisor II.

A variety of state agencies are recruiting for significant IT positions.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking an IT Specialist II to serve as an expert-level, lead technical specialist on various Java applications. Primary duties involve analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintaining these complex Java applications, according to the job posting. Desirable qualifications include:

  • At least 4 years of experience in Java/J2EE development with large enterprise systems 
  • Experience with JSP and/or JSF 
  • Experience using Java design patterns 
  • Experience with relational databases and SQL 
  • Experience with IBM Rational Software Architect, IBM Rational Application Developer, or Eclipse IDEs 
  • Experience following the System Development Life Cycle, utilizing configuration management tools (Harvest, CVS, SVN) 
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies

The California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (Cal Fire) is recruiting for a cybersecurity technical lead (IT Specialist II) to take responsibility for leading, planning, directing and implementing of the Cal Fire Configuration Management Program, “ensuring protection of CAL FIRE information assets and compliance with federal and state information security mandates, policies, standards, and procedure,” the job posting says. “The incumbent will ensure that best practices for cybersecurity are adhered to by creating configuration standards, tracking adherence to these standards, and performing periodic compliance auditing of systems for adherence to configuration management standards and frameworks such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), System and Network Security (SANS) and the Center for Internet Security Controls (CIS) to minimize exposure of CAL FIRE systems to cybersecurity attacks.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is June 23.

The California Department of Insurance is recruiting for a lead IT business analyst (IT Specialist II) who will lead “the gathering of information needed to create and implement successful IT projects that are part of the CDI prioritized portfolio,” the job posting says. “The incumbent must effectively manage and provide team leadership in the implementation of the more complex technological solutions that meet strategic business needs and possess knowledge of IT trends and practices.”

The position has a monthly salary range of $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is June 24.

California Correctional Health Care Services is recruiting for a healthcare applications technical lead (IT Specialist II) to serve “as a technical lead or project lead on activities related to development and maintenance of application services and technologies,” according to the job posting. The position “supports the most complex enterprise application development efforts which may include planning, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, user training, and troubleshooting. The incumbent must maintain confidentiality of information acquired while performing job duties, demonstrate ethical behavior and work cooperatively with others.”

The monthly salary range is $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is June 25.

The California Department of Social Services is seeking a chief of the Information Security and Privacy Bureau (IT Supervisor II) to supervise staff working on information security, risk management, data disclosure, incident reporting, security and privacy awareness training and high-level technical security tasks within the Information Security and Privacy Bureau (ISPB), according to the job posting. The chief “ensures that IT security standards and procedures are developed and maintained in accordance with the State Administrative Manual, Statewide Information Management Manual and CDSS strategic objectives,” among other duties.

The position has a monthly salary range of $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is June 22.
