State and City Recruiting for Key IT Positions

One position in recruitment is for an experienced project manager; the other is for a senior business systems analyst.

The state and the city of Roseville are recruiting for high-level positions.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking a project manager (IT Supervisor II) to oversee “projects that are defined as ‘low to medium risk’” under CDT guidelines, which are based on categories of strategic risk, financial risk, project management risk, and/or technology risk.

“Assignments will involve small to large size projects needed for continued operation of state business processes, tight time constraints, several interfaces with existing systems, proficient experience with the technology architecture, and/or low to medium visibility,” the job posting says.

Duties include:

  • Manage preparation of appropriate project initiation, project planning, or project change reports for management, client, and control agency review and approval.
  • Utilizing matrix organizational structures, establish project teams consisting of subject matter experts needed for successful project implementation.
  • In conjunction with the project team, identify the major work packages required to implement the project. The work packages or work breakdown will include the tasks to be performed, duration, and estimated resources needed.
  • Prepare detailed project plans based on those work packages including cost and schedule estimates to provide a baseline for management of the project.
  • Perform initial and ongoing risk assessments to identify and prepare contingency plans to mitigate or reduce potential risks.
  • Establish metrics for evaluating actual schedule versus original estimates.
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is June 15.

The city of Roseville is recruiting for a senior business systems analyst “to plan, organize and coordinate implementation of major business systems applications; to resolve high level and/or high priority business issues with departments; to manage related operational data processing systems and databases; and to perform a variety of professional and technical tasks relative to assigned responsibilities,” according to the job posting.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Plan, prioritize, and review the work of personnel assigned to business systems application support.
  • Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications. Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Provide and/or ensure follow up on trouble calls/tickets; correspond with or meet customers and vendors as needed to understand and resolve concerns.
  • Analyze complex data and information trends to support system capacity/performance planning or diagnose issues related to assigned systems; compile and prepare reports and documentation on analysis findings.
  • Perform installation and configuration duties and related data migration, conversion and maintenance and extraction work; implement and maintain databases, database tables and database objects; and develop database scripts as needed for assigned systems.
  • Perform configuration, testing and troubleshooting for network/communication devices and/or interfaces that support assigned systems.
  • Monitor automated system processes; monitor logs and files for evidence of problems or system failures; ensure business resumption after system failures.
  • Provide project management for major and/or complex system installations and application migration efforts; develop and guide project timelines; provide detailed project objectives, system requirements, business process analysis and cost-benefit analysis.
  • Facilitate testing, training and rollout of new or modified systems related to area of assignment; and seek out, receive and evaluate user feedback.
  • Assist departments in defining requirements for proposed business applications; review, analyze and evaluate business applications and user needs; and translate business objectives into application requirements.
The monthly salary range for this position is $6,269 to $8,401, and the application deadline is June 22.
