Experts Give Tips to Vendors on How to Win Contracts

State and local procurement officials gathered Thursday to help businesses improve their chances of winning contracts. Here are the tips counties and state departments had to offer to vendors:

• Be easily found
• Read the documents
• Ask questions
• Go to pre-deadline conferences
• File any concerns before the deadline
• Answer all the questions
• Be detailed, but not overly so
• Invitations for bids are only about price
• Get certified as a business enterprise that's local and/or run by a woman or a disabled veteran
• Get on master agreement lists
• Look at advertising-exempt options
