State CISO Among Speakers for Cyber-emergency Planning Webinar

The webinar will cover tools and practices that an organization may use to defend against cyberattacks and will demonstrate the benefits of cyber-emergency planning and organizing the workforce for a large-scale response.

The acting chief information security officer for the state of California, Vitaliy Panych, will be among the speakers next week at a cybersecurity webinar led by a partnership of government and academia.

The Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC) is leading the gathering, along with the city of Roseville and the California Cybersecurity Institute at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. The event — “MISAC Cyber Cities: Cyber Emergency Planning” — is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Speakers for the free event, in addition to Panych, include Art Vogtlin, assistant IT director for the city of Roseville; and Deborah Curtis, information security officer for Placer County government.

The webinar will cover tools and practices that an organization may use to defend against cyberattacks and will demonstrate the benefits of cyber-emergency planning and organizing the workforce for a large-scale response. It’s open to the public.

“Cyber is no longer just a ‘tech thing,’” says the news release announcing the event. “All aspects of every California community must be aware of cybersecurity and its impact on government, education, law enforcement, economy and citizens. Whether you are new to cybersecurity or a seasoned technology veteran, this webinar has something for everyone.”

More information and registration are available online.

For those who were unable to attend October’s MISAC Cyber Cities webinar about ransomware, it’s available for viewing online.
