State Departments Recruiting for Chief, Section Manager

The Department of Child Support Services and the California Department of Transportation are seeking candidates with leadership skills and tech experience.

Two departments in state government are recruiting for leaders in technology.

The California Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is seeking “an energetic, self-motivated, creative problem-solver with attention to detail” to serve as manager (IT manager I) of the department’s Systems Operations Section (SOS), ensuring that service-level agreements are met and processes followed for cloud services management, technology recovery systems monitoring and database administration.

Desirable qualifications for the position, according to the job posting and duty statement, include:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical application experience working in advanced software-defined database concepts, cloud computing, and platform-as-a-service methodology.
  • Ability to communicate, influence and work with a wide audience to help drive the target system solutions to successful implementation.
  • Experience in technology strategy development.

The monthly salary range is $8,381 to $11,231, and the application deadline is May 1.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is recruiting for a chief (IT manager I) of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and the department’s Business Intelligence Office.

The chief will report to the chief technology officer and oversee IT professionals in various classification levels who are responsible for standards and processes; procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance and operations of data warehousing; and for data management, business intelligence, data analytics, data modeling and reporting.

“The incumbent has full management responsibility for organizing, planning, coordinating, directing and controlling all activities associated with the day-to-day operations,” the job posting and duty statement note.

Minimum qualifications for the position include:
  • Two years of experience as an IT supervisor I; or
  • One year of experience as an IT supervisor II; or
  • Six years of IT experience performing a variety of progressively responsible technical, analytical or supervisory tasks in support of computer systems or services in one or more of the major six domains or a closely related or emerging IT field. At least two years of experience shall include performance of highly specialized work in a lead capacity on highly complex or specialized information technology systems or services, or in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity over highly complex or specialized information technology systems or services.

The monthly salary range is $8,381 to $11,231, and the application deadline is May 4.
