State Departments Recruiting for IT Expertise, Leadership

State agencies are recruiting for several specialty positions in technology.

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is seeking a branch chief for Project Oversight and Strategic Technology (POST), a Career Executive Assignment.

The POST branch chief “provides policy guidance and leadership for the department’s IT projects and establishes IT priorities which ensure new systems and IT initiatives align with the strategic plan, are planned and deployed correctly and remain operational at optimal performance levels,” the job posting states. The branch chief “is also responsible for providing direction and guidance on IT enterprise solutions and opportunities which further support CDSS programs and goals while also supporting the mission of the department.” More details about the role and responsibilities are available in the duty statement.

The monthly salary range for this position is $7,442 to $11,500, and the application deadline is April 30.

The Judicial Council of California is recruiting for two IT architect positions, one in Sacramento County and the other in San Francisco.

The IT architects “will look across all applications within the organization to ensure interoperability, cost effectiveness, performance, conformance with best practices and conformance with judicial branch technical standards,” the job posting notes. The architect in each role will work closely with other IT architects, selected application development analysts, program/project managers, operations staff and customers “to ensure business needs are met using a standard set of compatible tools (both hardware and software),” the posting notes. 

The monthly salary range for these positions is $8,428 to $12,643, and both recruitments will remain active until the positions are filled.

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) is recruiting for a unit manager (IT Manager I) to plan, organize, control and lead the Enterprise Analytics and Data Services Unit.

“This unit is responsible for the delivery of data analytics, business intelligence and reporting services that support the CalPERS organization,” the job posting notes.

Responsibilities of the job, according to the posting, include:

  • Manages and assists in the development of CalPERS analytics and business intelligence strategies, frameworks and standards to ensure proper delivery of information assets.
  • Effectively communicates and translates complex technical concepts to all CalPERS business areas.
  • Oversees the administration of CalPERS’ analytics and business intelligence environment.
  • Ensures that projects comply with CalPERS ITSB (IT Services Branch) direction and Business Intelligence/Data Management Committee decisions.
  • Actively participates in enterprise data management at CalPERS.
  • Prepares budget estimates.
  • Oversees vendor selection and consultant/contract management.
The monthly salary range for the position is $8,016 to $10,742, and the application deadline is May 5.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) is seeking a geospatial developer (IT Specialist II), “an expert technical resource to support the design, development, deployment and maintenance of Cal OES GIS (geographic information system) applications and configurations,” the job posting states.

“The incumbent will ensure adequate documentation for ongoing maintenance and support; provide innovative desktop and mobile-ready geospatial web mapping solutions to Cal OES internal and external partners; assist with ADA compliance issues; ensure applications are optimized; and integrate GIS information with other Cal OES IT applications,” the posting says. “In addition to GIS application development, configuration and support, the incumbent will provide support to the data and geospatial team as needed.”

The monthly salary range for this role is $7,365 to $9,869, and the application deadline is April 30.
