State Departments Recruiting for Solutions Architect, Supervisor and Specialist

One of the roles is for a cyber defense incident responder for the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services; the other two openings are with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Two critical departments of state government are recruiting for IT expertise.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has extended its recruitment for a cyber defense incident responder (IT specialist III) to “work within the California Cybersecurity Integration Center (Cal-CSIC) and with OES partner analysts to identify, collect and perform analysis of raw, primary and secondary data derived from various sources,” according to the job posting.

The responder “will perform and provide guidance on methods to investigate, document and report on cybersecurity issues and emerging trends, (and) provide actionable technical and tactical cyber information and intelligence to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governmental and private sector partners through ad hoc reports, briefings and presentations,” the posting says. “The incumbent works with the analyst team to create relevant and timely cyber threat products including advisories, recommended actions, and bulletins to assist California and partner entities to include Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), federal and SLTT personnel, and assist in applying prescribed analytical standards.”

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has two openings — one for a solutions architect (IT specialist II) and one for a unit supervisor (IT supervisor II).

The solutions architect “will be responsible for providing networking, security and DevOps-related services to create, maintain and support the AWS environments that host the front-end and back-end software applications and web services to meet the various IT needs in support of the DMV’s critical 24x7 infrastructure,” the job posting states. Desirable qualifications include at least one year of experience supporting networking and security in AWS environments; and at least five years of experience with web application development (using any modern technologies) and Software Development Life Cycle methodology.

The DMV’s Project Management Unit supervisor, according to the job posting, plans, organizes, and directs the work of the PM Unit and supervises IT staff performing work within the unit. In addition, the posting says, the supervisor “manages and oversees project management disciplines including schedules, resources, risks, issues, decisions, quality, performance, communications, metrics, and project library activities and action item management; provides project management expertise for departmental projects and through the supervision of subordinate employees ensures the project management and system development lifecycles methodologies are followed; manages all PM Unit staff including time and attendance, absence and leave management; (and) identifies, documents and monitors defined service level and performance management standards.”
