With two-thirds of the state budget relying on personal income tax, April is a critical month for those watching how much money the state collects for the General Fund. To provide Californians a better view of the state's budget condition, State Controller Betty Yee on Tuesday launched a new site to track daily personal income tax receipts.

By the end of March, tax receipts totaled $51.9 billion for the 2015-16 fiscal year, according to the daily tally. On April 4, the state collected $589 million.
