State Oversight Agency Re-elects Leadership

Both the chairman and vice chair were re-elected.

The Little Hoover Commission, an independent state oversight agency that makes recommendations on California’s operations and policies, re-elected its chairman and vice chairman on Thursday to one-year terms.

Chairman Pedro Nava served in the state Assembly for six years and on the commission for more than five years, after being appointed by Assembly Speaker John Perez.

Vice Chairman Sean Varner, who was unanimously re-elected, was appointed to the commission in 2016 by Gov. Jerry Brown. Varner is a practicing attorney.

The commission includes 13 members -- four state legislators and nine members of the public. The commission, charged with seeking to improve economy and efficiency in state government, provides its recommendations in reports and proposed legislation.
