State Recruiting Continues for IT Positions

“We are not aware of anything different driving these openings, other than standard turnover,” said Andrew LaMar, deputy communications director for the California Department of Human Resources.

State agencies and departments are continuing to recruit for a spate of open IT positions — jobs paying in the neighborhood of $100,000 per year.

Almost two-dozen such positions have popped up on CalCareers in the past couple of weeks, an apparent increase over the normal rate of posted recruitments. Techwire published a roundup of openings on Wednesday, and more have appeared since then.

Herewith are more state positions that were posted this week, along with salary ranges and application links for each.

The Department of Child Support Services is recruiting for an Information Security Architect (IT Specialist II) to work with a team “driving creative software and hardware solutions to support and modernize our child support systems.” Responsibilities include:

  • Information security knowledge and experience to conform to industry standards.
  • Knowledge of leadership principles and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively on and manage multiple competing priorities.
The monthly salary range is $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is Nov. 20.

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking an SQL Server Database Specialist (IT Specialist II) to serve as a technical architect in EDD’s Infrastructure Services Division, working with the department’s enterprise IT operations, including hardware and software and access to EDD’s data, much of which is confidential and sensitive. Responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of system and software design principles, standards, and best practices; system development methodologies and life cycle; testing practices; project management principles; architecture frameworks, and the administration and Department’s goals and policies.
  • Strong knowledge of data structure and database management systems
  • Experienced in SSIS, SSRIS, SQL server Monitoring, Power BI, VMware etc.
  • Strong understanding of provisioning SQL server in cloud (AWS, Azure)
  • Complete understanding of routing/switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS)
The monthly salary range for this position is $7,014 to $9,399, and the application deadline is Dec. 4.

The State Compensation Insurance Fund is recruiting for two Telecommunications Managers (IT Supervisor II), one each in Alameda and Solano counties. These managers are responsible for the analysis, design, testing, implementation, and post-implementation support of highly complex telecommunication and call center systems. The monthly salary range for these positions is $6,917 to $9,268, and the application deadline is Nov. 15.  

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Information Technology has two open recruitments.

The board is seeking an Enterprise Architect (IT Specialist III) for a position with a salary range of $7,732 to $10,362. The application deadline is Nov. 21.

The second position is for a Project Manager/Business Analyst. The monthly salary range is $5,297 to $8,570, and the application deadline is Nov. 21.
